This week’s blog post features a blast from the past on an episode that aired earlier this year. We got to have some Real Talk on Creating Consent Culture with our special guest Marcia B.
Marcia is an internationally-recognized speaker, writer, coach and expert on sexual communication, relationships, and women’s empowerment. Since 2003, she has helped tens of thousands of people through her private coaching, workshops, and group programs. Her primary mission is to help women and the people who love them to overcome shame and get in touch with what they truly want.
In this episode, Marcia breaks down some of the ways we can cultivate relationships that are based on consent, communication, and respect. Marcia acknowledges that not everyone is equally trauma aware, and doing this work is not going to provide completely uniform results, and there are still simple yet powerful conversation pieces we can bring to our relationships to be more consent-minded.
Marcia recognizes the difficulties that we have all experienced navigating the pandemic and dealing with touch starvation. She shares an interesting story about a couple she coached and the journey they went through while trying to better understand the unique needs they had regarding physical affection. Marcia also lists off some helpful ways we can consensually enjoy nonsexual affection, which provides many benefits including lower cortisol levels, less stress and irritability, more oxytocin, and overall well being.
Nika shares the game of “putting your cards on the table” as a fun and playful way to reveal what you’re into with your partner, find out what they’re into, and learn what you have in common.
